People's Republic of China by Anton and Nikhil

We have done a research text about a country called People's Republic of China. China is located in east-asia, bordering: Russia, India, Burma, Mongolia, Kazhakstan, Vietnam and North Korea. The country has varied landscapes that range from high mountains to dry deserts. The country itself has a very large area, about the size of the whole of Europe, and has the biggest population in the world, over 1.35 billion people live in China (140 people per square kilometre.) The east of China is very densely popuated, because of the open land and flat terrain, almost the opposite of West China, since the Gobi Desert is located here, the area is not very populated, also in the southwestern part, a part of the Himalaya mountains lies, making the terrain hard for people to live there.

Many kinds of animals and plants thrive in China like: pandas, bamboo, snub-nosed monkeys and tea bushes.Oranges and mandarins orginally came from China. Over 1250 kinds of birds, 430 mammals, over 200 types of reptiles and 2300 kinds of fish live in a China. The south-chinese tiger is an endagered species of tiger that lives in well.. Southern china.(Duh) A lot of china's floras are farming plants like Rice, Beans, Tea Bushes, Sugarcanes, Pea and Cotton. In China, they also have many fruit farms, with Apples, Strawberries, and also Grapes which are used to make wine.

The Terracotta Army.
The history of China starts around the yellow river and the Yangtze River.  China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and the written history of the country can be found as far back as 2070 B.C during the Xia Dynasty. Much of of the chinese litterature, culture and philosophy developed greatly during the Zhou Dynasty. The Zhou Dynasty began to break up in the 8th century B.C and got divided up into smaller states. After the dividing of the Zhou dynasty all the states ruled themselves. This is one of many dynasties that that was divided because of failed statehood. The most recent caused the Civil War of China between the communists and the republicans. This conflict resulted in two states, the Republic Of China (ROC) and the the Communist Party of China (CPC). In the end the communists got mainland China and the republicans got Taiwan so you could say that the communists won.

The Great Wall Of China.
After the Zhou Dynasty's breakdown in 221 B.C a new emperor called Qin Shi Huang united all the different parts of China and created the first chinese empire. The Qin dynasty is well known for beggining the construction of the great wall of China, which was later completed by the Ming Dynasty.  During the Qin dynasty the chinese written language also developed. When emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered the construction of his tomb, he placed 6.000 warriors made of Terracotta inside. Their purpose was to protect him in the after-life from evil spirits. After the Qin Dynasty, many different emperors ruled China, until Genghis Khan attacked and took over the country. His grandson eventually took over as emperor and improved life for the chinese people. He was one of the most loved emperors of China. After Genghis grandson passed away, the manchus took over the throne and created the Qing Dynasty, which lasted from 1644 to 1912. After that,

the chinese civil war broke out and created the modern China.

The chinese culture is one of the oldest in the world, with an advanced community system already in place 4000 years ago. Because of this they were responsible for many great inventions like paper, gunpowder, the compass, the wheelbarrow, porceline and silk. China has a very good record in the olympic games with an accumalative sum of 429 medals. The martial arts known as Kung- Fu, Qigong, and Tai- Chi all originate from China. Chinese cuisine is basically built up of Fan and Zhushi, which is the chinese words for the main carbohydrates in China, cooked rice and noodles. Cai, is the proteins, which usually are fish, meat and different vegetables. They do eat a bit different then us here in Europe,  they use chopsticks instead of the usual forks and knives. There are four official religions in China, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism annd Taoism. Taoism is the biggest of them. Taoism is a polytheistic religion with many different spirits and nature gods.

China along with 3 other countries are the only countries that are ruled by communists. The chinese government puts heavy restrictions on the internet, the newspapers and the right to demonstrate against community problems like the big garbage dealing problems they have in china, or demonstrating against the politicians of the communist party which rules the country. They also put restrictions on the freedom of choosing your own religion. The president of China is called Xi Jinping. He`s been in charge for about 2 months, since 14th march 2013. He replaced Hu Jintao who had been in charge for two terms. Almost every part of China is controlled by the CPC, which stands for Communist Party of China. They rule every different part except for an island group called Taiwan, where the republicans rule. Mainland China and Taiwan got seperated during the Chinese Civil War which started 1927 and ended in 1950. The war ended with the CPC controlling Mainland China and ROC controlling Taiwan. They estimate that 20 million chinese civilians died during the war, making it one of the bloodiest wars in history.
